Use the Creative Cloud Desktop app to make sure your copy of Photoshop is up to date.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"sub\">Step 1: Create a new document<\/h2>\n<p>Start by\u00a0<a title=\"Learn more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.photoshopessentials.com\/basics\/create-new-documents-photoshop-cc\/\">creating a new Photoshop document<\/a>. I\u2019ll create a square-shaped document by setting both the\u00a0<strong>Width<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Height<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>2000 pixels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Since we\u2019ll be placing an image into the shape, and images are usually saved at a higher resolution, I\u2019ll change the\u00a0<a title=\"Learn more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.photoshopessentials.com\/basics\/pixels-image-size-resolution-photoshop\/\"><strong>Resolution<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0value to 300 pixels per inch. So there are a few things we can do next. We can add a stroke around the shape, change the background color behind the shape, or remove the background completely.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll start by showing you how to change the background color. And the easiest way to do that is by using a Solid Color fill layer.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1: Add a Solid Color fill layer<\/h3>\n<p>We want the Solid Color fill layer to appear directly above the Background layer. The default color is black, which definitely brings out the details of the shape. But you can also sample a color directly from the image inside the shape. Just move your mouse cursor over the image and the cursor will change to an eyedropper.
