Which version of Photoshop do I need?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I’m using Photoshop 2025<\/a>. Use the Creative Cloud Desktop app to make sure your copy of Photoshop is up to date.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Step 1: Create a new document<\/h2>\n

Start by\u00a0creating a new Photoshop document<\/a>. If you are on the Home Screen, click the\u00a0New file<\/strong>\u00a0button.<\/p>\n

Or you can go up to the\u00a0File<\/strong>\u00a0menu in the Menu Bar and choose\u00a0New<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Either way opens the\u00a0New Document<\/strong>\u00a0dialog box where you can enter the settings you need in the column along the right. I\u2019ll create a square-shaped document by setting both the\u00a0Width<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Height<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a02000 pixels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Since we\u2019ll be placing an image into the shape, and images are usually saved at a higher resolution, I\u2019ll change the\u00a0Resolution<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0value to 300 pixels per inch. And I\u2019ll leave the\u00a0Background Contents<\/strong>\u00a0set to\u00a0White<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 2: Open the Shapes panel<\/h2>\n

The fastest way to\u00a0draw custom shapes in Photoshop<\/a>\u00a0is to add them from the Shapes panel. To open it, go up to the\u00a0Window<\/strong>\u00a0menu and choose\u00a0Shapes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Shapes panel opens in the secondary panel column to the left of the main panels. You can show or hide the panel by clicking its icon.<\/p>\n

At first, all we see are the default shapes which are divided into groups.<\/p>\n

You can twirl any group open to view the shapes inside it by clicking the\u00a0arrow<\/strong>\u00a0next to its folder icon.<\/p>\n

And you can drag the bottom of the Shapes panel downward to expand it and view more shapes at once.<\/p>\n
